What We Do
As family law mediators, we mediate and educate several family law areas, and we’re proud to do it.
-
After a relationship breakdown, it’s very important to create a schedule that works best for both parties, with the primary focus on meeting the needs and stability of the children. There is no one-schedule-fits-all and it can take time to determine what works best specifically for your family.
-
Calculating appropriate child support or spousal support payments can feel daunting and overwhelming, since there are many different components to consider for each. We can help determine the correct child support payments for your children under the federal guidelines, and also assist in establishing a fair and appropriate amount for spousal support.
-
When a breakdown of relationship occurs, it’s important to carefully determine who will make important decisions for the children. Whether parents make all the decisions for their children together (joint), each parent takes responsibility for specific types of decisions, or one person is given sole authority to make all the decisions, clarifying who does what is essential for the children’s stability and well‑being. In addition to the above, having this responsibility established can limit future parent conflict.
-
When determining residency of the child(ren), it’s important to consider all factors and act in the best interest of the children. These factors may consist of where the children go to school or have childcare arrangements, where they have established relationships both family and friend, where their extra curricular activities are located, etc.
-
Upon deciding to separate from your partner, you maybe faced with deciding who is going to keep the car, the house, trust funds, jewelry, how to divide any debts, and the like. Making these decisions can be extremely high conflict and we would be happy to help you through it.
-
In specific situations, a recommendation may be made from a high authority (judge, lawyer, etc) to ascertain a VOC report. We always recommend not involving the child in legal issues or adult conversations, but in some cases it may be necessary. These types of reports assist legal professionals in understanding the child(ren)’s views and preferences regarding the separation, parenting time schedule, and the like. This report has several steps such as interviews with the parents, reviewing important documentation, and scheduling interviews with the child(ren) - sometimes several interviews are necessary. Once all formal interviews are complete, we will write a report and provide them to all involved parties.
Our Process
Consultation
Together, we outline a path forward that’s realistic, strategic, and tailored to meet everyone’s needs. In addition, during this time, it helps us get a better understanding of your situation. We will also take the time to review any previous reports and orders you may have. What you tell us during the consultation meeting is strictly confidential (some exceptions apply). Once both parties have had their individual consultations we’ll move forward to beginning to mediate.
Collaborate Openly
You’re part of the process and neither party is left out of the mediation process. This is a safe space to speak openly and give a clear understanding of your thought process and reasoning.
Plan with Purpose
Every client file is very different. We stay flexible and responsive to make sure the process fits your flow—not the other way around. We want to encourage both parties to come to the mediation with open minds and positive attitudes to ensure a resolution that works for both parties.
